Ferhan Kayihan is the owner of
IETek - Integrated Engineering Technologies, which is a systems engineering
consulting company that he started in 1996. He teams with his corporate and
manufacturing clients to adapt and implement advanced technologies for new
development and performance improvement projects. Ferhan Kayihan also teaches
customized in-house short courses to the industry in modeling, control and
software development. During 1981-96 he worked for the Weyerhaeuser Company
Corporate R&D organization; where, as an Engineering Fellow his
responsibilities were mainly in long-range strategic research for process and
systems improvement. At Weyerhaeuser Ferhan Kayihan maintained strong
collaborative ties with academic associates and sponsored various thesis
projects. With IETek he is still active in joint projects with university
research groups.
Ferhan
Kayihan was educated in Turkey where he received his BS in Chemical Engineering
at Robert College in 1970. After receiving his PhD in 1974 from University of
California at Santa Barbara, he spent his early professional years as a chemical
engineering faculty at UC Santa Barbara, University of Bosphorus in Istanbul,
Purdue University and Oregon State University. He received the Oregon State
University 1981 College of Engineering Carter Award for outstanding and
inspirational teaching as voted by the graduating seniors. Ferhan Kayihan is an
industrial trustee of CACHE since 1995 and has been selected as a co-recipient
of the 1999 CAST Computing Practice Award. As an active member of AIChE, TAPPI,
CPPA and AAMI Ferhan Kayihan participates in professional meetings with
contributions to program committees, session organizations, tutorial workshops
and keynotes.
