One-day workshop DATA ANALYSIS, CONTROL and MONITORING of SHEET and WEB FORMING PROCESSES Date: April 30, 2000 Provided by: IETek – Integrated Engineering Technologies Instructor: Dr. Ferhan Kayihan Place: Empress Hotel, Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA Hotel contact and room reservations: The Empress Hotel; 721 Government Street, Victoria, BC V8W 1W5; tel: (250) 384-8111, fax: (250) 389-2747
The workshop is provided as an independent supplement to the international CONTROL SYSTEMS 2000 (CS2000) Conference (May 1-5, 2000) that will be held at the Empress Hotel. For more information on CS2000 please visit the conference web site at http://www.paptac.ca/pcc/cs2000.htm. Registration and fees for CS2000 and IETek's workshop on Data Analysis, Control and Monitoring of Sheet and Web Forming Processes are separate and independent. One day workshop cost: US $300. WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES The objectives of the workshop are (a) to review basic math and statistics for scanner data analysis and (b) to introduce some of the recent and practical methods for product quality assessment, performance monitoring and design of MD/CD controllers as applicable to paper machines. Participants will learn how to extract maximum information from machine data and how to identify performance variations accurately. The underlying technical approach for the workshop will be to treat sheet data as a two-dimensional information set and to construct control and monitoring tools through basic multivariate methods. Technical principles and methods to be covered are equally applicable to all other sheet and web forming processes in plastics, metals, glass and fabric manufacturing. Workshop notes will be provided in hardcopy and electronic formats. WORKSHOP AGENDA

WORKSHOP REGISTRATION Please register for the one-day workshop on DATA ANALYSIS, CONTROL and MONITORING of SHEET and WEB FORMING PROCESSES by providing the following information via e-mail (preferred) using the template below, by fax or through regular mail. Confirmation of registration will be provided after all necessary information and fees are received by IETek. EXTENDED WORKSHOP OFFERING The April 30, 2000 workshop is designed as a brief one-day event to accommodate the participants of CS2000 at a reasonable cost and without adding too many days to their travel schedules. However, the subject matters to be covered in the workshop are best communicated and discussed over a two or three day period allowing extra time for sufficient theoretical and practical details, active classroom participation via PCs, and extensive Q&As. Please contact IETek if you are interested in arranging an in-house extended version of the same workshop with customized agenda and examples using your machine specifications and data.
